[ARCHIVED] National Preparedness Month

National Preparedness Month

National Preparedness Month

Started in 2004, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) made September National Preparedness Month to help Americans prepare for emergencies and disasters. Each year, National Preparedness Month has a theme and this year's theme is Preparedness Starts at Home. When preparedness starts at home, we can get back to the basics to keep us, our friends, families, and community safe. Emergencies and disasters happen every day but by taking simple steps today, you can prepare yourself for tomorrow.

Get More Prepared:

  1. Know what emergencies are most likely to happen. In Sherborn, we are most likely to experience serious flooding as well as less severe thunderstorms, nor'easters, and blizzards.
  2. Plan what to do, where to go, and when to do it. Make a family emergency communication plan and make a plan that includes the children in your home as well.
  3. Have what you need to stay safe. Check your supplies using the emergency kit checklist and always include your children in emergency planning with the emergency kit checklist for kids.
  4. Get involved. The Sherborn Fire Department is hosting awesome public education programs for Sherborn Residents to teach basic skills that can help in case of an emergency.
