#SherbornPicksUp - Thanksgiving Mini Litter Pickup!!!

The Town of Sherborn’s Select Board and its Department of Public Works (DPW) is supporting its second annual “Thanksgiving Mini Litter Pickup” – encouraging residents to come together as a community to pick up litter in Sherborn over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend.  Last year, over 75 residents participated and helped to pick up over 100 bags of litter from our shared spaces.

Volunteers are encouraged to step outside to get some fresh air and exercise at the same time as picking up litter.  We had a great town clean up last April but over the past six months litter has accumulated on roadsides, adjacent to sidewalks, and at the edges of recreational areas such as Fessenden, Laurel Field, the playground. Litter also spills into in our wetlands, open spaces, and nature trails and it is critical for Sherborn's wildlife and water resources to get the litter out of these areas.

Roadside signage, safety vests, and trash pickers will be available for loan at the DPW headquarters.  Trash bags are available as well.

Filled trash bags can be dropped directly at the Sherborn Transfer Station Friday-Sunday.  In addition, DPW staff will also support this effort with coordinated pickup of filled trash bags from roadside locations if transport to the Transfer Station is difficult.

More information will be provided to all who sign up!

#SherbornPicksUp is a volunteer movement that was created with the support of the DPW to encourage positive change both locally and as part of the global community. It is hoped that this ongoing effort will help us come together as a town in how we see and deal with litter.  Sherborn is also an official chapter of Keep Massachusetts Beautiful whose mission is: “We’re taking action to make Massachusetts a cleaner, greener place to live, work, and play.”
