The Sherborn Fire & Rescue Department was established in 1942 for the community to have an organized force to extinguish fires in Town. Today, through the work of many members, the department provides fire suppression services with a focus on three areas: structure fires, brush fires, and vehicle fires. Other types of fires can happen too, but these are the three main types that we deal with. Read below to find out more about each.
Structure Fires
The department typically responds to and combats several structure fires each year, both in Sherborn and by providing mutual aid.
All new SFRD members receive initial basic training at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy, which certifies them as Firefighters. This training program focuses on structural firefighting. The department also hosts near-weekly training sessions for all members to keep up on all skills needed to be a Sherborn Firefighter, including structural firefighting skills. Please visit our training page to learn more about our training.
Through a number of fire apparatus (trucks) that are uniquely specific to Sherborn's needs due to the lack of a town water system, the department typically responds with a compliment of two Engine companies, one Ladder company, and one Tanker Truck to structure fires. Please visit our apparatus page to learn more about our fleet of fire and EMS vehicles.

Brush Fires
The department typically responds to and combats several brush fires each year, both in Sherborn and by providing mutual aid.

Vehicle Fires
The department typically responds to and combats several vehicle fires each year.
Due to the prevalence of electric vehicles, the department is equipped and trained to handle both conventional and electric vehicle fires.
